Type L Hand Axe RAIDER
$175.00
“Vikings” is the modern name given to seafaring people originally from Scandinavia (present-day Denmark, Norway, and Sweden), who from the late 8th to the late 11th centuries raided, traded, and settled throughout parts of Europe.[
Our Petersen Type L fighting axe, which we have called the Vikingr, is one that any Viking warrior of the time would have been proud to carry. The head weighs approximately 1lb, and when mounted on a haft of the right length – it becomes a very quick and balanced weapon that is an absolute joy to wield. If you close your eyes, you can almost hear the sails rippling in the wind, feel the salt spray on your face, and taste the sea air seasoned with a slight hint of burning thatch.

Type M Dane Axe HUSKARL
$275.00
The Petersen Type C axe was developed during the 7th century and eventually came to the Nordic countries through Western and Central Europe; Several examples of this type have been found in Sweden and Norway.
Our, Filunger, a type C bearded axe based on an 11th century find from Gotland Sweden, is primarily a tool for woodworking. It’s weight and wedge-like shape make it ideal for easily felling and splitting timbers and removing material from a work piece. Historically, axes of this type would have been used to make and smooth the planks used to construct houses and build boats.

Type D Hand Axe SNIKKAR
$175.00
During the Viking age, axes like this one were used by craftsmen and carpenters, and for many of the required daily tasks around the homestead. The story of Tyrker came to mind when this axe was held for the first time – he was the foster father of Leif Eriksson, accompanying Leif on his voyage to Vinland. It was said that Tyrker was a master of many crafts including woodworking and building. A talented figure like himself would certainly have valued the usefulness and versatility of this axe.
Snikkar is based on Petersen Type D axe finds from throughout Scandinavia and England. The weight and shape of this axe make it well suited to a variety of tasks like splitting kindling and felling small trees. This axe is an absolute must for every living historian out there. You will be amazed at how useful it is and will want to keep it close at hand.

Haithabu/Hedeby Knife
$75.00
This small Viking age knife or seax replica is crafted in a configuration that we decided upon after long hours of research. It is very much like many of the knives that reside in museums throughout Europe and Scandinavia. Examples of this type of knife would have been found all over Viking age Scandinavia, Europe, and the Eastern-Rus territories as far as Novgorod. It is not an exact example of one particular knife, it is an amalgamation of many knives of the same shape and size. Knives like these were used every day for carving wood, peeling fruit, cutting rope, or trimming meat. It was the utilitarian belt knife of the period and as such would have been readily available in large trade centers such as Haithabu/Hedeby, Jorvik, and Birka.

Continental Broad Seax
$85.00
This light broad seax is reminiscent of weapons that have been found in archaeological digs from Paris to Trondheim. Blades like this were used by the Merovingians/Carolingians and other Iron age/ Viking age cultures. It could have been purchased at a trade center or obtained at no cost as a battlefield pick-up. These blades are very robust with both the edge and the back of the blade curving towards the tip, which is generally located at the centerline of the blade. Many examples have two decorative grooves that meet toward the tip of the blade. Some examples like this one have a heavy broad blade that is designed to defeat mail shirts. This was accomplished by thrusting it into an opponent and forcing apart and breaking the riveted links so that the blade could pass through.

Danelaw Seax
$65.00
This robust bladed seax is the so-called broken-back style seax. These seaxes have a sharp angled transition between the back section of the blade and the point. This shape makes the spine appear to be broken like a beast with a broken back which is where this evocative blade style gets its name. Knives or Seaxes such as these were common in Viking age Britain and Ireland, although some examples have been found in archaeological digs in Germany and have been dated around 8th-11th century. Knives like these were used every day just as the smaller knives were, however, they were substantial enough to have proven useful if your main weapon was lost during combat or during an unexpected mead hall brawl as well.
